Sharon Kelly will share a video on the Charlotte Award books.

Named for the main character in E. B. White's Charlotte's Web, the purpose of the New York State Reading Association Charlotte Award is to encourage students to read outstanding literature and ultimately become lifelong readers. NYSRA presented the first Charlotte Awards in 1990. Additionally, the award recognizes the authors and illustrators of such literature. Students in New York State will read titles on the ballot and vote for their favorites.                      The Charlotte Awards are a great way for teachers to know current quality books to read with their students as they prepare to vote for the awards from a select list. Lists are developed for primary, intermediate, middle school and high school readers for each year's awards. Read some of the books to be able to vote this year.

This presentation is an excellent opportunity for teachers to learn how to participate in this exciting vote for the Charlotte Awards. Teachers and students participating this school year in the awards will read titles on the ballot voting for their favorites in each category. Ballots must be received by April 15, 2021. Votes will be tallied, and winners will receive their awards at the NYSRA Conference in November 2021. There will be an opportunity for teachers to ask questions about participating in the award voting at the end of this presentation.                                                                                New York State Teaching Standards will be addressed during this presentation. Standard 1, Element I.4 and Standard 2, Element II.2.

A link for the presentation will be sent to you on Feb. 24, 2021 after you register.
