We are ALL Teachers of Media Literacy

Thursday, February 25, 2021 - 7:30 to 9 PM - via Zoom

(90 minutes of CTLE credit will be available to all who attend live)

We are all teachers of reading - whether or not we wear the labels 'classroom teacher,' 'reading specialist,' 'literacy coach,' or 'school librarian'. But we must also be teachers of media literacy. It is vital that our students learn skills and tools to help them navigate multiple media formats, determine the credibility of the media they consume and consider the powerful impacts of the media they produce and share.  In this session, attendees will be immersed in media literacy activities, exposed to curricular resources for the classroom, and challenged to consider where and how media literacy fits into their work.

Dr. Kristen Mattson is a former teacher and school librarian now serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois. She is also an independent consultant, partnering with organizations and school districts to infuse digital citizenship, media and information literacy, as well as digital ethics into classrooms. Learn more about Dr. Mattson's work on her website: DrKMattson.com or connect with her on social media @DrKMattson.
