Albany City Area Reading Council, Iroquois Reading Council, and Schoharie Reading Council are joining forces to offer local teachers a very special program: WHY READ? MAKING THE CASE FOR PASSIONATE READING. Dr. Shelley Stagg Peterson, IRA board member and professor of Literacy at the University of Toronto, will address the need for passionate reading in our standardized times and help teachers, librarians, and authors inspire a new gereation of readers. Other guests include Steven Sheinkin, author of THE NOTORIOUS BENEDICT ARNOLD and National Book Award Finalist for BOMB, and Matthew McElligot, author and illustrator of EVEN ALIENS NEED SNACKS, THE BACKBEARD BOOKS and more. The format for the evening will be a panel of educators and authors who will address this question on passionate reading. Fee: $32.50 for any members of the sponsoring councils, $40.00 for non-members. Price includes a meal with choices of: Applewood Grilled Chicken, Grilled Fillet of Salmon, or Rigatoni Oreganato.
